Prom Dresses – How to Find Your Dress Size

During Prom season, girls who are looking for prom dresses online frequently ask us, “How do I know what size to order?” Answer: Because the dresses do run smaller than standard size, the best way to find out if it will fit is to take your body measurements and match it to the size chart.

5 Easy Steps for Finding Your Dress Size:

  1. Go to Wal-Mart or Target, and for under $5, purchase a flexible measuring tape so that you’ll be able to measure your dress size.  If you don’t have a measuring tape, have someone wrap a string around your bust, waist, and hip then measure it with a ruler. When you take the body measurements, have a friend or a relative measure your body for you because it will be more accurate. Also, make sure you’re wearing your regular style of clothing because bulky clothing will give you an inaccurate measurement.
  2. When holding the tape measure, keep it fairly tight and add 1″ to 1.5″ to your body measurements so that you will have more breathing room.
  3. Your bust should be measured at the fullest part and your waist must be measured at your waistline.
  4. Your hips should be measured at the fullest part, which will be about 8-9 inches below your waistline.
  5. Utilize the chart below and compare your measurements to help you find your dress size.
